MEETING 7 :  I LOST MY JOB TO A MACHINE!

Warm Up

1. In my opinion, the cartoon tell us that nowdays transportation that using horses has been replaced by modern car, such as taxi. It makes unemployment more and more. Unemployment is the biggest negative impact from revolution industry, but we can’t blame this problem to anyone because everythings change, technology change, times change and i think taxi is more efficient and fast than horses
2. Post office worker, because now letter replace by emails and instant messaging.
3. Labor or industrial worker and waiters.

Vocabulary

1. Application ; A formal request to be considered for a position or to be allowed to do or have something, submitted to an authority, institution, or orrganization.
2. Replace ; Take the place of.
3. Army ; [treated as ssingular or plural] An organized military force equipped for fighting on land.
4. Security ; The state of being free from danger or threat.
5. Disease ; A disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially one that produces specific symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury.
6. Union ; The action of joining together or the fact of being joined together, especially in a political context.
7. Equal ; Being the same in quantity, size, degree, or value.
8. Unlikely ; Not likely to happen, be done, or be true; improbable
9. Gun ; A weapon incorporating a metal tube from which bullets, shells, or other missiles are propelled by explosive force, typically making a characteristic loud, sharp noise.
10. Waste ; Use or expend carelessly, extravagantly, or to no purpose

CLAUSE

Clause atau klausa adalah kalimat yang memiliki conjungtion, subject dan verb. Clause has no meaning but it has subject and verb.

Clause terdiri dari dependent clause dan independent clause

• Dependent clause

Dependent clause atau anak kalimat can’t stand alone.

Ex : When i came late

When = conjuntion

I = subject

Came late = verb

• Independent clause

Ex : I will buy a mountain

I = subject

Will = verb

Clause dibedakan menjadi 3 yaitu :

1.      Adverbial clause

2.      Adjective clause

3.      Noun clause

• Adverbial Clause

Untuk dependent clause dari adverbial clause bisa dipindahkan ke depan atau ke belakang.

Ex : I will buy a mountain if i have a lot of money

I will buy a mountain = independent clause

If i have a lot of money = dependent clause

bisa diubah menjadi If i have a lot of money, i will buy a mountain.

• Adjective clause

Ex : The girl whom i met last night is beautiful

The girl = subject

Whom i met last night = adjective clause

Is = verb

Ex : I want to buy a book that you showed me yesterday

I = subject

Want = verb

Book = noun

That you showed me yesterday = adj. Clause ( tidak perlu lagi memakai subject karena telah disatukan dengan conjungtion)

• Noun clause

Ex : I do not know who answered the phone

I = subject

Do not = verb

Who answered the phone = noun clause

READING

Technology     changes           the way           we       work    in         many ways.

One of the first industrial machines used water to replace some of the work done by animals.
